Leave Me Alone!
Some people have no sense of respect whatsoever for other’s personal spaces
Part of the challenge in being African and having all things in common is that people will tend to feel like they are responsible and have to have a say so in your life. Like it’s up to them to know and be involved with what’s happening to you.
Now, this does one of two things
1. 1. Creates very dependent people who cannot think or move without someone else saying so
2. 2. Very frustrated individuals who have to put up with nosey ‘friends’
Let’s talk about the second bunch. The others will be addressed later.
If you are a private person, you want your personal time to be respected. Period.
That’s not up for discussion.
It’s your sanctuary. Your refuge. The place where all things that you are processing and sorting through in your mind and emotions get resolved.
It’s an extremely crucial thing that your personal time is not meddled with.
By all and sundry
Yep, ALL and SUNDRY.
Mother, friend, Pastor, Spouse, Relatives, leader… Whoever
It’s holy ground. Sacred even.
No one is welcome without my express permission
My coach calls it church. Yes, church
It’s that important. That critical
So, when some oh-so-self-righteous-soul comes over and insists on you telling them exactly what you are going through, demanding that you let them into your personal space, when they keep barging and insisting that they know and get involved when you really don’t need them, it can be a pretty harrowing experience.
There are times everyone wants to be left alone.
Go away!
Shoo!
Leave me alone!
I don’t want you around!
I’ll be fine!
BY MYSELF
Quit being my personal Holy Spirit!
This is an important need I’ve come to learn we all have.
That personal time is valuable because we are able to refocus, rethink, cry, sort our messes out, pray
Talk to the Lord, write or journal, sing…. Whatever sugars your tea… it just has to happen
Without the company.
Or the nosiness
So it’s critically important for you to set aside that time when you need to be alone.
Be clear about it.
And defend it.
You are not being selfish or a sinner when you tell people to leave you alone.
And you don’t have to have people surrounding you all the time. Saying oh this, oh that …sijui God is saying what to you… blah blah blah….
I will tell them, maybe the reason I can’t hear God is because you are loudly proclaiming your agenda to me. If you shut up, and LEAVE ME ALONE, maybe I will hear Him speak!
Now, if you are the kind that is the spiritual patrol police, you love to insist on everyone telling you everything and involving you in everything, I have a piece of advice for you
Learn to BACK OFF!
You are not God.
Learn to respect other’s silence, personal time, privacy and unless you are invited, please don’t invite yourself.
If you learn to define that personal time and guard it, you will find that you can have peace, you are able to sort out your stuff first before you begin to share it with others. You will also be a happier and more balanced person.
If your life has been crowded by too many people saying all manner of things in the past, why don’t you receive freedom to just be left alone for a while?
Moses did it, Jesus did it, Jacob did it, and you desperately need it!
Ask the nosey ones politely to respect the fact that you want privacy and alone time.
And you will let them know when you are willing to let them in, if you will ever be!
Please! Somebody leave me Alone. Thank you
I’m just sayin…
