My Christmas Favorites

I'm a music nut. No doubt. I will not work without Music, and will most definately not drive without it. And i love my music loud. So i can 'feel' the soul and spirit of the song. (Pretty deep huh?). Well of course Evie doesn't like that! She thinks music should be played softly and when necessary. Well, i will resist the temptation to bring on a fight here about how to listen to music, the how to is up to you.
This post is to kinda let you in on my favorite Christmas music. Since the holidays are here, You SHOULD be playing some holiday music. The problem is most people only know of Boney M's old classic christmas music.
That's old.
Way too old.
You need something fresh.
There are many artists out there with pretty good christmas albums. Since music is one of the ways we get ourselves into the season's mood. I hereby give you a list of my favorite Christmas albums. Feel free to comment on albums you personally like, and let's see what comes up

1. Merry Christmas - Mariah Carey (1993)
Mariah outdoes herself on this album. Great tunes and sounds as well. It probably is her best album of all time! Really, well, because then she was 'sane' as Evie calls it, and those days music made alot of sense. All i want for Christmas is you Is a family favorite of ours. Check out her rendition of Oh Holy Night as well, Amazing background vocals as well on the Chorals. I recommend this album for anyone.

2. Noel- Josh Groban
Undisputed as one of the grand tenors of modern classical music, Josh Groban's Noel soars as much as evokes feeling while he sings away. I love His duets as well with Faith Evans and Brian Mcknight. Awesome!

3. Miracles - Kenny G
Kenny G, while not considered by critics to be a Jazz musician has amased an incredible following due to his incredible skill and masterful playing of the soprano sax. He turns the Christmas favorites into masterpieces with the sax and enchanting percussions.

4. A soulful Christmas - Aaron Neville
From the most successful solo artist among the famous Neville Brothers. Aarons mellow voice croons its way into your heart with his RnB and Cajun blends. Since watching him perfom Yellow Moon with his Brothers on Jay Leno's show. (That's when CNBC Africa was alive in Nairobi), I've always been a fan. This particular album while older as well, (1993) it will minister to your soul as Aaron does his thing.

5. These Are Special Times- Celine Dion
I love this album for the fact that Celine took some songs you wouldn't expect and added them to this collection and sang them with her sweet melodic voice. Was just as surprised to find out her duet with R.Kelly (I'm Your angel) was from this christmas album. My favorite is Don't save it all for Christmas day!

6. My Christmas- Andrea Boccelli
Another Great italian singer. Probably in the steps of Pavarotti. Santa Claus is coming to town just makes me wanna grab Alexa and serenade her around. if you have a thing for Opera and classical jazz, Andrea Boccelli will do it for you!

7. Peace on Earth- Casting Crowns
Casting crowns are not my favorite Christian band. Sometimes i find their music heavy to the ear from the rock guitars. But on this album, i think the heart and spirit of Christmas is captured as they weave a new twist to Christmas music. My favorite is Away in a Manger. (Which happens to be Alexa and Evie's favorite as well.)
8. Christmas Collection-Amy Grant
Amy Grants Christmas collection is alive with her pop appeal to her music fans. I have always and still love Breath of heaven (Mary's song). I love this album not just because it's well done. But because her lyrics can be used for great mimes and Christmas perfomances at Cantata's or church Christmas services

If you are looking for some good Christmas tunes and don't know where to start. This list is a good place to sample and see what you like. Hope you enjoy the tunes and your rest this season
Happy holidays.
